TOTTONIANS 65
BOGNOR 12

Tottonians started into a stiff breeze on a very warm and sunny day. We were on the attack from the kick off, but stout defending held us out. Bognor cleared their lines, but Totts threw 'not straight' from the line out. A strong Totts' scrum stood the Bognor front row up and we kicked for touch from the penalty. A fervent run by Dave Brandes set up a ruck and the ball was fed to Nick Jones, who broke two tackles to score under the posts. Robbie Searle converting for a 7– 0 lead after seven minutes. Totts continued to press deep into Bognor's when the visitor's went offside at the ruck and Robbie Searle increased the score to 10 – 0 with the penalty. Mike Green fielded the kick off to set up a ruck and decent ground was made down the left wing. The ball was moved right and good hands put Richard Buck into space, where he beat two defenders on his way to touching down under the posts. Robbie Searle converted for a 17 – 0 lead. On thirty-three minutes, Bognor knocked-on in their own half and from the scrum the ball was fed along the line to Robbie Searle who made a break before passing to Richard Buck, who went through his opposing winger before returning the pass. Robbie Searle touched down and converted his own try, giving Tottonians a 24 – 0 advantage. We were now rampant and from the kick-off Joe Locke took possession, out-paced the defence and reached the Bognor five metres line. He offloaded out of the tackle to Nick Jones who went round underneath the posts for another converted try and a 31 – 0 lead. Totts knocked-on the kick off and Bognor moved the ball along their backs out of the scrum. Robbie Searle intercepted and went the length of the pitch to score under the posts and converted the try for a 38 – 0 lead. Chris Bethel fielded the kick off and was tackled illegally high. The penalty kick found touch and from the line-out. we set up a driven maul, forcing Bognor back fifteen meters from where Stuart Mackrell touched down for an unconverted try, to bring a half time score to 43 – 0.
A good break by Richard Buck put us deep into Bognor territory at the start of the second half, before we knocked on. Bognor were pushed off their own ball on their five metres line allowing Dan Stocks to pick up and score under the posts, but the conversion was inexplicably missed. The tally had now reached 48 – 0 just two minutes into the second half. Ten minutes on, Bognor were trying to play their way out of their own half when they knocked on. Richard Buck gathered and out-flanked a defender to score his second try and bring the score to 53 – 0. From the restart Dave Brandes, who was having an outstanding game, came onto the ball at pace and broke through the opposition's forward defence and reached their twenty-two before offloading to the supporting Wayne Gilroy who carried the ball at speed onto the five metres line. There, he fed Dave Wood, who touched down under the posts with Robbie Searle adding the two points for a 60 – 0 lead. Bognor never gave up and they came back into the game in the last quarter. Tottonians went down to fourteen men for the rest of this encounter when Dave Brandes went off injured and all the replacements were on the pitch. Bognor scored a converted try under the posts when Totts were pinged for holding on at the ruck. From the tap-and-go, Totts were caught wrong-footed and Bognor recorded their first score, making the total 60 – 7. With four minutes to go Mike Searle made a break, brushing aside a couple of defenders before passing to the supporting Dave Wood, who touched down between the posts but missed the conversion, to bring the score to 65 – 7. Bognor claimed the final points when they turned over a ruck and moved along their back line, scoring out wide to bring the final score to 65 – 12.
This game brought an end to Totts' season in some style and was a fitting way to send off Chris Bethel and Robbie Searle, who leave us for pastures new.

GUILDFORD 34
TOTTONIANS 17

This game was played in perfect conditions on a warm spring day.
For the first twelve minutes it was honours even, with both sides forcing a number of turnovers. Tottonians broke the deadlock when we set up a ruck from a scrum. Quick ball and a miss pass in the centre put Joe Locke away into space. He put Nick Jones away who sped to the Guildford five metres line before being tackled. Guildford infringed at the ruck and Robbie Searle converted the penalty, 0 – 3. Totts failed to clear the ruck set up from the restart by the receiver and Guildford kicked through, forcing Richard Buck to carry the ball over his own line and touch down. From the scrum, the hosts ran the ball and forced a penalty which they kicked for touch. Totts turned over the line out, but Guildford ran back a poor clearance kick to score close to the posts and give themselves a 5 – 3 lead. Guildford's pack were now dominating play in the loose and on half time Totts were pinged for holding on. Guildford kicked for touch and the catch and drive was rewarded with an unconverted try and a 10 – 3 advantage at half time.
The home side kicked off for the second half and Totts knocked on. From the scrum Guildford ran the ball and their centre wrong footed our defence to touch down under the posts and increase his side's lead to 15 – 3, the simple conversion being inexplicably missed. Twenty minutes later, Guildford's scrum half picked up on the back of a Totts' scrum. The ball was moved quickly across the backs and they scored their fourth and bonus point try, 20 – 3. Their total was increased to 27 – 3 two minutes later when a multiphase move carried them the length of the pitch to score under the posts, this try finally being converted. The introduction of Dave Brandes and Mike Thomas in conjunction with an inspired performance from Richard Buck finally spurred us into action and we carried the game to Guildford. After a series of high tempo phases, Dave Johnson went close but was held up. From the ruck, Alex Cormack was dragged in. Totts ran the penalty and Mike Searle crashed through to score, Robbie Searle adding the extras to bring the score to 27 – 10 with ten minutes left on the clock. With four minutes of play remaining, Totts were still mounting pressure and forced a Guildford kick out of defence, which was run back. Robbie Searle made a half break and freed up his hands to pass to the supporting Joe Locke, who scored under the posts. Robbie Searle converted, 27 – 17. Guildford were to score last however, when they worked their way down the pitch to set up a ruck on our twenty-two. Our blindside guard was dragged in and the hole was exploited by the opposing winger, who touched down under the posts to close the scoring at 34 – 17 after a successful conversion
This was a game in which Tottonians did not compete effectively for long periods, allowing Guildford a thoroughly deserved bonus point win. This result now rules us out of any slim chance we had of promotion this term.

TOTTONIANS 29
LONDON CORNISH 5

Tottonians started against the wind but managed to score first after four minutes. Good approach play by the forwards, with Dan Stocks making some decent ground, set up field position before the ball was spread to Mike Searle, who carried the ball up before  passing it along the back line for Nick Jones to scoot round under the sticks for the first try. Robbie Searle added the extras for a 7 – 0 lead. Cornish pressed for the next twenty minutes, but resolute defence held them at bay. We then made our way into the Exiles' half with a series of rucks and the visitors were forced to put hands in. Robbie Searle converted the penalty, increase our lead to ten points. A good break down the left followed, which saw Totts held up over the line. From the resulting five metres set piece, Chris Bethel broke but was again held up. From the ensuing scrummage, the home side was awarded a free kick and we ran the ball out to Dave Wood who jinked his way over to touch down in the corner for a try that was improved by Robbie Searle giving us a 17 – 0 lead. With two minutes to go until half time, Totts picked up from a scrum and set up a driven maul, which carried us to our own ten metres line. The ball was moved to Robbie Searle who span out of the tackle. He beat two defenders and dummied the last player to score the final try of the half for a 22 – 0 score line, having hit the posts with the conversion attempt.
Totts looked to have increased the lead four minutes into the second half, when Nick Jones made a good break but was tackled just short of the line. He popped the ball up to Robbie Searle who touched the ball down, but the referee deemed the pass to be forward and disallowed the try. With a quarter of an hour of the half gone, poor defence allowed Cornish to penetrate down the right wing before setting up a ruck. The ball was transferred to their backs, who had a two man overlap to score an unconverted try and bring the score to 22 – 5. This gave the visitors some confidence and they put Totts' under pressure, but stubborn defence forced a knock-on that was fielded by Wayne Gilroy. His pass was picked up by Alex Cormack, who made a great thirty metres break before dispatching to Dave Wood who went over in the corner to score his second try and secure Totts' bonus point. This was converted by Robbie Searle to bring the score to 29 – 5. We were completely dominant for the last twenty minutes and knocked on at least two certain scores with the line looming, for the score to remain at unchanged at no-side.
This was a good all round performance by Tottonians and redeemed a heavy reversal away from home at the hands of London Cornish who, as always, provided friendly and enjoyable company after the game.

TWICKENHAM 17
TOTTONIANS 29

Twickenham kicked off and we tried to play out of our own half mounting a series of rucks before being penalised for holding on. The home side fly half punished us with the penalty and Tottonians were 3 – 0 down after sixty seconds. Totts were then on the attack and Nick Jones made good ground after coming off his wing before offloading to Robbie Searle who knocked on over the line whilst trying to ground the ball. Good pressure at the five metres scrum forced a poor clearance kick from Twickenham and from the line out Totts drove for the line, sucking in the Twickenham defence. The ball was fed to Dave Wood who made a half break before passing to Joe Locke, who found Scott Rogers. His score close to the posts gave the visitors a 3 – 7 lead after Robbie Searle had added the extras. On the half hour mark Totts increased our lead after creating phase after phase and retaining possession. Mike Searle finally found a gap and broke two tackles to score an unconverted try wide out for a 3 – 12 score line. Tottonians retained the stranglehold on territory and possession but on the stroke of half time Twickenham made a break down the blind side from turn over ball deep in their own half. Good inter-passing carried them the length of the pitch to touch down under the posts for a converted try and a 10 – 12 half time score.
Twickenham knocked on the second half kick-off and Totts mounted good pressure from the scrum. We were held up over the line but from the set piece five metres out, Mike Searle received the ball and again broke a brace of tackles before scoring his second try which was converted by Robbie Searle to increase our advantage to 10 – 19. Ten minutes later he increased his side's score to 10 – 22 when he converted a penalty given against Twickenham for going off their feet at the ruck. Tottonians were now dominating play and half way through the half Robbie Searle made a break before off loading to Scott Rogers who touched down under the posts for his second and the bonus point try. This was converted by Robbie Searle and the score was now 10 – 29. With ten minutes to go Twickenham turned over the ruck and their outside centre made a good break, his incomplete pass being intercepted and knocked loose over our own line. Twickenham fell on the ball and converted the try for a final score of 17 – 29.
This was a far better performance from Tottonians, who worked hard for the victory.

TROJANS 49
TOTTONIANS 11

Trojans controlled the game from the kick off, a good break by their centre gave them field position and after a series of rucks Tottonians put hands in to give away the first of many penalties. Trojans' fullback split the uprights for a 3 – 0 lead after five minutes. A spate of penalties gave Trojans field position. After another succession of rucks the ball was spread wide and Trojans fullback cut wide to score an unconverted try and give his side an 8 – 0 lead. From the kick off Trojans moved the ball to their wing who made good ground, Totts finally clearing the ball into touch deep in our own half. Trojans went over from the catch and drive to take their lead to 13 – 0. On the half hour the hosts' left winger again made good ground deep into our half and set up a ruck. Dave Wood slowed down the ball and received ten minutes in the bin for his trouble. Totts' fourteen men did well and mounted several phases, forcing Trojans to put hands-in at the ruck. Robbie Searle kicked the penalty for a 13 – 3 score line. Trojans made good ground from the kick off and Totts infringed yet again at the breakdown. Trojans kicked for touch and the catch and drive was successful for them again, when they touched down wide out, a good conversion giving them a 20 – 3 lead at half time.
Tottonians kept the ball well for the first five minutes of the second half, but good Trojans' defence kept us at bay. The home side eventually went over the top and Robbie Searle reduced the deficit to 20 – 6 with the penalty. Halfway through the second half and we were making our way up field, but a pass out the back door resulted in a knock on and Trojans ran back the turn over. Danny Drake managed to intercept the move but threw a wild pass over his own line, which Trojans fell on for a fortunate score which was converted for a 27 – 6 lead. Another penalty followed and this brought the score to 30 – 6. Five minutes later, a clearance kick was fielded by Trojans and good inter-passing allowed their winger to cut inside and score a converted try, bringing the score to 37 – 6. A driving maul gave Trojans a great platform on the half hour and a well worked converted try by their backs brought the score to 44 – 6. Totts scored a consolation try with five minutes of the game remaining when a back row move gave us ground and after a few phases Nick Jones went over wide-out for an unconverted try and bring the score to 44 – 11. Trojans were not finished and off a midfield scrum they exploited the blind side to create the overlap with their winger scoring in the corner with the final play of the game, 49 – 11.
Totts were comprehensively outplayed in this game, as the score line reflects.

TOTTONIANS 76
K.C.S. OLD BOYS 0

From Kings' start-of-game kick-off, Totts faltered and the opposition took full advantage with a broad assault perilously close to our line. Totts defended astutely, but for three minutes KCS looked like they were going to make a game of it. That all changed when Luke Richardson put in a powerful break along our right tramline, cutting inside before giving responsibility to Scott Rogers to claim his wing and score in the corner. Robbie Searle slotted over a nice conversion to put Totts on the score sheet 7 – 0. Ten minutes in, Luke Richardson again did all the work to get Richard Buck started on a powerful half-pitch run to Kings' right corner. Two embarrassingly simple dummies foxed the inept defence and he sauntered over for the first of his five tries, 12 – 0. More good work from the forwards followed and a ground-eating thrust from Ali Ramus broke the somewhat limited defence before delivering a perfectly timed pass to Dave Wood, who engineered our third try after wheedling his way up-field towards the promised land. One dummy and the supporting Mike Searle was all it took to confuse Kings' rear guard, allowing our captain to scoot over in triumph. Robbie Searle took the extras and we were now 19 – 0 to the good. Two minutes later and just twenty minutes into the game, a neat pass from Tom Elliott put Robbie Searle on a half-diagonal path from midfield, linking up with Richard Buck on his wing as the opposition watched. The two-on-one attack destroyed the full back and a short pass gave Richard buck his brace and Totts the four-try bonus point. Robbie Searle converted with a superb kick from the left touch line, 26 – 0. With Kings offering virtually no opposition, Tottonians were making the most of every opportunity, displaying a confidence rarely seen this season. During a rare excursion into our half, a knock-on resulted in KCS being awarded a five metres scrum. From the turn-over ball, Dave Wood scythed his way through a dejected and static field of defenders, then left the final run-in to the omnipresent Richard Buck, who calmly jugged it over the line. Robbie Searle once again augmented the score and we were 33 – 0 up. Just before half time, Kings were soaking up the pressure once again and a last-gasp clearance kick, hurriedly taken from behind the posts, failed to make touch and fell into the eager clutches of Richard Buck, who made easy meat of claiming his fourth try, this time tight into the left corner flag. That closed the half at 38 – 0.
Despite the ground being heavy, the forwards continued to put in a lot of effort and Dan Drake was diving in to claim every loose ball somewhat reminiscent, it was observed, to Tom Daley both in elegance and stature. Such enthusiasm drained the opposition and Totts were now being gifted with the time and space to do as we wanted. Tom Elliott broke speedily away from a melee and was allowed to escape into open territory, running from within our twenty-two to the halfway line. He slipped to ball to Dave Brandes who opened the way for Mike Searle to put in a powerful run to the line, heading between the posts. As the last-gasp defences floundered, Mike donated the honours to Scott Rogers, who touched down close to car-park corner to open the second half scoring at 43 – 0. As Tottonians settled into using the unprecedented plethora of unopposed and controlled possession, confidence grew by the second. Good attacking moves were developing from every quarter, but it was Richard Buck who once again put in the tireless effort to take advantage of the weak defence out on the flanks and saunter over for his fifth try of the game, bringing the score to 48 – 0. Coming in from the side resulted in a penalty line-out and from the drive, the forwards were unstoppable, gaining at least forty metres of turf. The ball was released to Mike Searle who cut inside to finish the job under the posts. Robbie Searle converted to take us to 55 – 0 with twenty minutes to go. Totts relentlessly continued to pile on the pressure and a loose pass from Mike Searle was nicely tidied up by Dave Brandes, giving Paul Brading the opportunity to take the ball into the honey pot for a touch down, 62 – 0 after our fullback had converted. Richard Buck missed the last fifteen minutes due to an injury, giving Gareth Allan his First Fifteen debut. Continuing the onslaught, a kick ahead resulted in a ruck forming deep in enemy territory. Fast ball cleared a half-opening for Dave Wood to exploit and he slipped the ball inside for Luke Richardson to fall over the line under the posts, to record Totts' eleventh try, and subsequently seventh conversion, in this one-sided encounter. It was 69 – 0 and things were still blowing Totts' way, who were putting in an assiduous performance which culminated in a fine show of flowing rugby, when the ball was moved down the line through many muddy hands, before ultimately ending up with Gareth Allan giving the final pass to Scott Rogers, who skipped inside and scored under the posts for his hat trick. Robbie Searle sealed the result with a conversion, bringing the final score to a satisfying 76 – 0.
Tottonians made the most of a poor performance by Kings, who offered little in opposition. However, they had their moments and twice they came worryingly close to scoring, after breaking away down their right wing. Only the speed and tenacity of Scott Rogers saved our lock-out on both occasions. It is nice to record a high-scoring victory but there was little offered defensively or offensively by our visitors, so let us enjoy the win then get back to focussing on, and preparing for, the far greater challenge we face next week.

LONDON CORNISH 41
TOTTONIANS 25

This game started at pace, with both sides displaying some decent rugby. Richard Buck fielded a Cornish kick deep inside our twenty-two and made good ground before off-loading to Ali Ramus who made further inroads. Dave Brandes set up a ruck and the Exiles were caught with hands in. Dave Wood punished them with the penalty and a 0 – 3 lead after seven minutes. Cornish twice looked set to take the lead, but forward passes denied them on both occasions. After twenty minutes, hands in at the ruck by Tottonians allowed the home side to level the score 3 – 3 before taking the lead 6 – 3 after we infringed again twelve minutes later. From the kick off Totts put together some decent phases before we were awarded a scrum. Luke Richardson picked up from the wheel and made decent ground before setting up a ruck. The ball was fed to Dave Wood who jinked through the Cornish defence before feeding Richard Buck, who touched down in the corner. Dave Wood converted to give a 6 – 10 score-line. From the resumption and with half time looming, we put together a few rucks, but the Exiles drifted offside in the backs, resulting in Dave Wood kicking the penalty to give us a 6 – 13 lead at half time.
Early in the second half the nimble Scott Rogers looked to have got away, but was ankle-tapped by a Cornish front row. From the ruck further phases got Totts into our hosts' twenty-two where we were forced into touch. Totts turned over the ruck from the line out and the ball was moved to Scott Rogers who put Nick Jones over in the corner for an unconverted try, increasing our advantage to 6 – 18. From the restart, Cornish put on the pressure and managed to clip ahead to get field position and maintain possession, which finally resulted in a five metres scrum. Two rucks saw them over the line for a converted try, 13 – 18. Totts fought back, but despite being under attack, Cornish broke out and created a three man overlap to score in the corner, which was well converted, edging them back in front 20 – 18. Totts maintained possession from the kick off, allowing Scott Rogers to eat up the turf down the right wing. From the ruck, Dave Wood fed the ball to Paul Brading, who cut inside to score next to the posts, with Dave Wood converting for Totts to regain the lead 20 – 25 with twenty minutes remaining. We failed to field the kick off again and Cornish took full advantage, play eventually resulting in a five metres scrum. We were deemed to have stood up and the referee awarded a penalty try, which Cornish converted. With a 27 – 25 lead and a quarter of an hour to go, the Exiles were in control. Ali Ramus was sin-binned for a deliberate knock on and missed the last ten minutes. This, combined with the loss of tight-head prop Stuart Mackrell through injury, gave Cornish the edge in the tight. Further forward drives in the last five minutes resulted in two more converted tries and a 41 – 25 bonus point win for the home side.
London Cornish fully deserved their maximum points win for a good display of fifteen man running rugby, against a Tottonians' side that was clearly not at its best.

EFFINGHAM & LEATHERHEAD 20
TOTTONIANS 22

A strong wind was blowing diagonally across the pitch and Effingham & Leatherhead chose to go with the elements in the first half. Both sides ran the ball effectively and mounted some good attacking moves. Totts gave away a penalty for hands in at the ruck and Eagles made good ground before we were penalized for tackled a man without the ball. Eagles tapped and went again and their winger ran along the touchline to score in the corner, their fly half kicking a fine conversion given the conditions, to open the scoring with a 7 – 0 lead after seven minutes. This lead was increased five minutes later to 10 – 0, after Totts were pinged for holding on. In reply, we mounted phase after phase of attacks for the next twenty minutes, but were unable to break the resolute Eagles' defence. An Eagles' clearance kick was well-fielded by Totts and a ruck set up. We were penalised for going over the top and some back chat to the referee moved the kick ten metres towards our posts, within range of Eagles' fly half who put his side 13 – 0 ahead. Totts scored three minutes before half time when a weaving run by Chris Bethel carried us down to the Eagles' twenty-two. After a series of rucks, the ball was moved to Scott Rogers who outflanked the defence to score in the corner, giving a 13 – 5 half time score.
Tottonians started the second half strongly, now with the advantage of the wind at our backs and after a series of rucks Eagles were punished for hands in at the ruck, allowing Dave Wood to reduce our deficit to 13 – 8. We maintained the pressure and again launched a series of phases, eventually being held up over the line. From the scrum, Totts knocked-on at the ruck, but Eagles backs had strayed off side and Dave Wood kicked his second penalty to bring us within two points at 13 – 11. Under pressure, Eagles took a man out at the lineout. Dave Wood lost his footing as he took the kick and the ball was fielded by Eagles who gained substantial territory, but spilled the ball forward at the ruck. Dan Drake gave quick ball to Dave Wood who off-loaded to Ali Ramus. After some  good ground had been made, the supporting Dave Wood took the return pass and dummied his way over for an unconverted try, putting us in the lead for the first time, 13 – 16. Half way through the half, Eagles were awarded a scrum on Totts' ten metres line. The ball was moved to the inside centre who went through a poor tackle. The outside centre collected the pass to touch down. A good conversion against the wind put Eagles back in the driving seat, 20 – 16. With twelve minutes to go, Tottonians again mounted a series of attacks. At a ruck, Eagles' fly half was caught with his hands in the till and Dave Wood got us within a point as the result of his successful penalty kick. With time running out, a drive from a five metres line out was held up by Eagles and after two rucks the ball was given to Dave Wood, who dropped a goal and gave us a 20 – 22 lead.
Totts survived a last minute scare when we gave away five consecutive penalties to put Eagles into our twenty-two, but we held on to claim a nail-biting victory.
This was an enthralling game with both sides playing some excellent rugby and we were happy to come away with the result, but our determined hosts fully deserved their bonus point.

TOTTONIANS 16
GOSPORT & FAREHAM 13

Play was even early on, but Tottonians took the lead after ten minutes. A penalty kick resulted in a line out, which was driven but Ali Ramus was held up over the line. From the scrum the ball was moved to Paul Brading who cut inside to touch down under the posts. The score was converted by Dave Wood, deputising for the injured Robbie Searle, to give the home side a 7 – 0 lead. Gosport & Fareham levelled things up after twenty minutes, when a sustained period of pressure resulted in a series of penalties against us, culminating in a five metres line out. This was sacked and from the maul, Gosport's centre skipped a tackle to touch down and even up the scores to 7 – 7. The sacking of the line out was interpreted as collapsing a maul by an interesting referee and Dave Brandes received ten minutes in the bin. With fourteen men on the pitch, Totts still managed to take the lead when, from the kick off, Gosport returned a deep kick and we kept the ball for a number of phases before they went offside at a ruck. Dave Wood kicked the penalty to bring the tally to 10 – 7. Our score was augmented on the half-hour, when a good line kick by Paul Brading from a penalty gave Totts a five metres line out. This was driven and we nearly scored, but Gosport's flanker infringed to stop the try, earning himself ten minutes in the bin and gave Dave Wood the opportunity to increase our advantage to 13 – 7. With three minutes of the half remaining, Totts again gave away a series of penalties to keep us in our own half, eventually being pinged for taking a Gosport jumper out in the line out. The kick was converted to give a half time score of 13 – 10.
The second period reached stalemate despite some powerful runs from
Luke Richardson and Dave BrandesDave Wood kicked a penalty for offside at the ruck to give the home team a 16 – 10 lead after twenty minutes, but Gosport replied when a penalty was awarded against us for going over the top at a ruck. With just five minutes to go, this was the final score of this encounter and Totts claimed a narrow 16 – 13 victory. At one stage during this half, Chris Bethel and an opposing flanker were simultaneously binned for some handbags between the penalties.
This was a game where two very even sides were allowed to infringe and go offside at the breakdown, which neutralised the match. Totts can at least be happy with the win whilst our visitors fully deserve their losing bonus point.

TOTTONIANS 39
WEYBRIDGE VANDALS 24

Tottonians started well, but Vandals went ahead after seven minutes when Richard Buck cleared for touch and the fielding player was tackled by Totts who hadn't retreated the required ten metres. The howitzer boot of their full back put the ball through the sticks from our ten metres line for a 0 – 3 lead. From the re-start, the ball went into touch for a Weybridge line out. Chris Bethel was through on the visitors' tap back and set up a ruck. The ball was then moved quickly across the backs and Joe Locke outpaced the defence and touched down under the posts for Robbie Searle to convert, giving Totts a 7 – 3 lead. We were pinged on the quarter hour for holding on and were punished again from their ten metres line to bring Vandals within a point, 7 – 6. Totts again responded from the kick off.  Weybridge cleared to touch and we set up a driving maul sucking in the opposition. Play was moved across the backs and Richard Buck cut across inside to score an unconverted, bringing the score to 12 – 6 half way through the half. The score remained unchanged until there was just five minutes of the half remaining, when Tottonians hoisted a clearance kick and our chaser pushed the Vandals' receiver before he fielded the ball on our ten metres line. The penalty was converted again to bring Weybridge to within three points, 12 – 9. Totts restored the six-point margin just before half time when the Weybridge put their hands in at the ruck and Robbie Searle kicked the penalty for a lead of 15 – 9.
Tottonians made a number of mistakes from the kick off, culminating in an off side in the ruck, right in front of the posts. Vandals converted the penalty to close the gap to 15 – 12. We then manage to stay in their half and a high tackle on Mike Searle resulted in a penalty, which was kicked by Robbie Searle, bring the score to 18 – 12. Ten minutes into the half, Weybridge Vandals took the lead for the first time when their full back broke through some weak tackling to get deep into our half. Totts set up a ruck on our five metres line and the clearing box kick was charged down for Vandals to drop on the ball over Totts line. The conversion was made from the touch line to put Weybridge ahead 18 – 19. Totts came out of our slumber after three-quarters of the game. Quick ball from a ruck went from Ali Ramus to Chris Bethel, who fed Robbie Searle to outflanked the winger and touch down. He converted his own try to put his team back in front 25 – 19. Five minutes later an off-the-top ball from the line out was moved across the backs. After two quick rucks Dave Wood dummied inside to Stuart Mackrell and jinked the full back to score a converted try under the sticks. This fourth try brought the score to 32 – 19 and secured our bonus point. With five minutes to go, Dave Wood again conjured his though the Vandals' tackles and fed inside to the supporting Dave Johnstone, who capped a good debut from off the bench by touching down under the posts. Robbie Searle's conversion increased the tally to 39 – 19. Vandals came back from the kick off and put together a number of phases, to score an unconverted try on the no-side whistle and bring the final score to 39 – 24.
This was a game in which Tottonians could have notched up more points, had our handling not let us down at crucial moments. However, full credit must go to our visitors, who were tenacious throughout this encounter.

GUERNSEY 23
TOTTONIANS 8

Tottonians kicked off with a strong wind at our backs, but we were trailing after just a minute. Guernsey knocked-on at a line out and Totts picked up at the resulting scrum. Guernsey kicked the three points after being awarded a penalty for obstruction. Eight minutes later the score was levelled when Totts kicked into the Guernsey twenty-two and the ball was fielded and the mark was called. The Islanders crashed the ball up but held on at the ruck, allowing Robbie Searle a successful penalty kick. Guernsey kicked deep from the  kick off and a clearance kick was charged down, the ball being scrambled into touch on Totts' five metres line. Sarnians completed the catch and drive to touch the ball down out wide for an unconverted try and a lead of 8 – 3. From the restart, the ball did not carry the required ten metres and Guernsey opted for the scrum. Their prop was penalised for boring and Totts kicked for touch. A good drive carried us deep into opposition territory where the ball was moved along the backs and Nike Jones cut inside his opposite winger to score a try and tie the game up at 8 – 8, after Robbie Searle hit the post with his conversion attempt. The Guernsey No. 8 made a good break and carried the ball down to the Totts' five metres line before being tackled. His pass out of the tackle was intercepted by Tom Elliott who had no option but to run the ball out on the five metres line. The line out ball bounced off the head of Guernsey's jumper and over our line, where their player managed to get a hand on the ball first to claim a try and give his side a 13 – 8 lead after twenty-five minutes. The game ebbed and flowed but the score was to remain unchanged at half time. Guernsey were content with their lead knowing they had wind advantage for the second half.
We struggled to clear our lines into the wind from the kick off, eventually straying offside in the backs to give Guernsey a penalty in front of the posts which was taken to give a score of 16 – 8 with five minutes of the half gone. They continued to use the wind to pin Totts back. From a line out on our five metres line, Totts tapped the ball back over the line and touched down to concede a five metres scrum. Guernsey mounted a series of rucks from the resulting scrummage and burrowed over for a 21 – 8 lead and capped it off with a conversion off the bar to give a final score of 23 – 8, there being only ten minutes of unproductive playtime remaining.
Our hosts deserved their win as they played the conditions better than we did, using their forward runners well in the first half and the wind to assist some fine positional kicking in the second.

TOTTONIANS 11
OLD REIGATIAN 10

Tottonians started the game into a very strong breeze. Reigatians kept Totts pinned back with their fly half using the wind to kick deep into our half. The Surrey side mounted wave upon wave of attack, but resolute defence saw all their efforts repelled. When Totts did break into the Reigate half, numerous errors saw possession turned over for Reigatians to come back at us again. The deadlock was finally broken after thirty-five minutes when Totts picked up from a five metres scrum on our own line. The home side failed to release and Reigatians kicked the points for a 0 – 3 lead. Totts then managed a few phases in our opponent's half and hands in at the ruck cost the visitors a penalty. Robbie Searle converted the kick for a 3 – 3 score-line at half time.
In the second half the game see-sawed to and fro with both sets of defences counteracting their opponents' attacks. Old Reigatian broke the deadlock half way through the period and turned over a ruck in mid-field. The ball was passed to their centre who broke a tackle before kicking ahead for their fullback to chase. We were subsequently penalized for preventing a possible try-scoring opportunity when the fullback was tackled without the ball. A penalty try was awarded and Reigatian took a 10 – 3 lead. Tottonians came straight back from the kick off. A good drive deep into the Reigatian half, followed by some quick hands, put Richard Buck into space. He passed to the supporting Paul Brading, who kicked on and touched down for an unconverted try wide out to bring the score to 8 – 10. With ten minutes to go, Totts were mounting pressure in the Reigatian half when hands in at the ruck saw the visitors penalised. Robbie Searle successfully kicked the penalty and we took an 11 – 10 lead, which also ended the scoring for this encounter. During a line-out, a Reigatian jumper dropped awkwardly and injured his ankle. The visitors were now down to fourteen men because they had used all their replacements, so this gave Totts an edge in the last few minutes. Reigatians' stubborn defence held Tottonians at bay and a high tackle presented them with a last-gasp penalty. Had the kick been successful, they could have walked away with a victory.
This was a closely-fought game, with the score line not reflecting the endeavour shown by both sides. Only one point separated two very well-matched teams over both this season's meetings.

TOTTONIANS 37
GUILDFORD 22

For the first ten minutes of this hard fought encounter, Guildford maintained possession with Tottonians continually forced to kick out of defence. Robbie Searle kicked ahead but his chase was curtailed by a high and late tackle. The penalty kick to touch was off-target, but Guildford's return punt wasn't and from the line out Totts put together a number of phases before the visitors put hands in at the ruck. Robbie Searle kicked us into a 3 – 0 lead with a quarter of an hour gone. Three minutes later, Guildford kicked ahead in open play but knocked on at the pick up. From the scrum, Chris Bethel picked up with the wheel to outflank the opposite back row and a driving maul dragged in the cover defence. A swift movement along the backs culminated in a well-worked try, when Robbie Searle dummied his way over to touch down, then converted, giving us a 10 – 0 lead. With five minutes to go until half time, Robbie Searle was blatantly late-tackled again, resulting in a yellow card for the offending Guildford player. However, Mike Green also got ten minutes in the sin bin for retaliation, leaving both sides down to fourteen men. Another late tackle, this time with Mike Searle on the receiving end and right in front of Guildford's post, added another three points to our tally when Robbie Searle slotted the ball between the uprights, bringing the teams in at 13 – 0.
Just as at the start of the game, Guildford piled on the pressure for the first ten minutes after the recommencement of play and their efforts were rewarded with a series of five metre scrums. The Guildford tight head prop appeared to have scored a perfectly good try from close range, but was deemed to have been held up. From the resulting scrum, their backs then found a way through our defence and although the scorer appeared to have spilled the ball before grounding it, the try was awarded. Justice was done for the earlier unrewarded opportunity. The conversion was missed for a 13 – 5 score line. From his own restart, Robbie Searle tackled the receiver and the incoming Mike Searle turned the ball over at the break down. Dave Wood received and proceeded to jinks his way through the defence. The ball was offloaded and a ruck set up. Good movement along the backs resulted in Nick Jones scoring in the corner to increase our score to 20 – 5 after Robbie Searle had claimed the extras with a superb kick from within the tramlines. Tottonians scored again from the kick off when Mike Green went on a run and set up a ruck. Mike Searle picked up and broke through to power up into our opponents' twenty-two. From the ruck, the ball was moved along the backs. Chris Bethel was waiting at the end of the queue to dot down in the corner. The converted try increasing our lead to 27 - 5 with twenty-three minutes of game time still remaining. Ten minutes on, Guildford gained themselves another series of five metre scrums as they stubbornly attacked our goal line. Their tight head prop stood up time after time on their own put-in, but the referee saw it differently and Danny Drake received ten minutes in the bin. Barry Collins came on as front row replacement and Nick Jones was pulled off for the duration of the binning in accordance with the Law. Opting for another scrum, the shrewd Guildford tight head prop tried his luck and stood up once more. Once again this was interpreted as a Totts' misdemeanour and a penalty try was awarded, which was exactly what Guildford were playing for. This put them right back into the game at 27 – 12. We did well with our fourteen men and five minutes later Guildford gave away two successive penalties for off side offences. Robbie Searle converted the second one to stretch our advantage to 30 – 12. From the kick off, the ball was moved to Richard Buck, who went on a penetrating run down the left wing deep into Guildford's twenty-two. Two quick rucks and some good inter-passing put Ben Pearce over for the bonus-point try and a 37 – 12 lead, after another good conversion from our full back. With five minutes left on the clock, Totts switched off the engines. The kick-off was knocked on and from the scrum our visitors' inside centre cut through a gap to feed his winger, who notched up an unconverted try, bringing the score-line to 37 – 17. We fielded the kick off and moved the ball wide but another knock on resulted in a set piece, from which Guildford piled on more pressure. Totts were caught offside at a ruck and Guildford ran the ball in with the last play of the game. Their fourth try of this encounter closed the score at 37 – 22, rewarding our guests with a league table bonus point for their dogged persistence right to the end.
Totts can be well satisfied with the day's work, but it was disappointing that we gifted our close rivals the bonus point right at the last knockings.

TOTTONIANS 15
TWICKENHAM 11

Tottonians played well at the start of the game, building a number of phases that put Twickenham under pressure. After four minutes the pressure told and Twickenham infringed at a ruck in front of their posts, where Robbie Searle kicked us into an early 3 – 0 lead. After seventeen minutes, Totts were scrummaging on the half way line when the Twickenham tight head appeared to stand up. The referee saw this the other way and penalised us for the offence. Twickenham kicked well for touch, gaining themselves a five metres line out. After the ruck, they bundled over for an unconverted try, 3 – 5. Ten minutes later, Twickenham stood up at the scrum and Totts kicked for touch. From the catch and drive, Ali Ramus was yellow-carded for standing on a player at the bottom of the maul. Twickenham ran the penalty and were immediately turned over. Totts made good ground down the pitch getting into the Twickenham twenty-two area. The visitors were then penalised at the ruck for hands in, and Robbie Searle kicked the points for a 6 – 5 lead. With half time looming, Twickenham strung together a number of phases and found their way back into our twenty-two once more. Totts were the offenders this time and hands-in cost us three points when Twickenham kicked the penalty, earning themselves a 6 – 8 advantage. Totts put pressure on from the kick off, forcing a scrum on the Twickenham ten metres line. Twickenham stood up again and Robbie Searle regained the lead for the home side, 9 – 8, with a forty-metres penalty, just on the stroke of half time.
From the re-start, Tottonians attacked the blindside and Dave Wood initiated a move from which the ubiquitous Robbie Searle fed Richard Buck, who made good ground deep into opposition territory. Twickenham went off their feet at the ruck and Robbie Searle converted the penalty for a 12 - 8 lead. With three-quarters of the game played, both sides missed penalty chances. Twickenham were now challenging with vigour but Totts were defending resolutely. With a quarter of an hour left on the clock Twickenham were penalised for a forward pass on the half way line. The decision was hotly contested by Twickenham with some justification, but their outburst saw them marched back ten metres and the scrum converted into a penalty. This put the posts well within range for Robbie Searle and his thirty-eight metres kick increased our tally to 15 – 8.
With ten minutes to go, Totts infringed at a ruck and Twickenham got themselves within four points of us with a successful penalty kick. This left a grandstand finish, with Twickenham needing an unconverted try to take the spoils. They camped themselves on our goal line and battered away incessantly, but Totts' defence was outstanding and the intruders were held at bay long enough to give the home side a 15 – 11 victory when the referee gave a welcomed final blast on his whistle.

K.C.S. OLD BOYS 18
TOTTONIANS 16

Tottonians started well with a series of attacks, pressurising Kings' line. We were rewarded after four minutes when Scott Rogers made a good break, beating two tacklers and making it to the home side's twenty-two to set up a ruck. The Old Boys infringed and Robbie Searle kicked the penalty for a 0 – 3 lead. Totts then squandered a number of scoring opportunities through poor passing and poor-option tackling. On eleven minutes Pete Belasco was held up over the line when he looked certain to score. From the resulting five metres scrum, he made amends and clearly touched down from a back row move. The referee was unsighted and did not see it that way, ruling that Pete was held up again. Three minutes later, KCS were punished for deliberately wheeling the scrum and Robbie Searle kicked us into a 0 – 6 lead. We continued mounting pressure in Kings' half but a poor pass was hacked ahead by their winger out of his own twenty-two. He chased his own kick and then kicked on again, beating the cover defence to touch down for a converted try, putting Kings 7 – 6 up against the run of play. This gave our opponents some heart and after they had mounted a series of rucks, Totts were deemed to have pulled in their scrum half. The penalty was kicked on the stroke of half time to give Kings an unexpected 10 - 6 lead.
Five minutes into the second half Totts put a number of phases together and finally spread the ball wide. Kings' centre knocked back the attempted final pass between Robbie Searle and Scott Rogers on the wing, but Robbie was able to kick the loose ball on and ground it over the try line in the corner. He converted his own score to give Totts a 10 – 13 lead. Kings came back again and fielded a poor clearance kick, then worked an overlap to score an unconverted try in the corner and establish a 15 – 13 advantage. With three quarters of the game played, Richard Buck broke out of defence but his pass was deliberately knocked on by Kings. Robbie Searle kicked the penalty for Totts to retake the lead 15 – 16. Kings were not to be beaten and we were left to rue our earlier missed opportunities when they were awarded a penalty for not releasing at the ruck, with just two minutes to go. The penalty was converted for a final score of 18 – 16.

TOTTONIANS 18
EFFINGHAM & LEATHERHEAD 21

Tottonians started the game well and dominated the early phases. Robbie Searle kicked ahead a poor pass and chased his own kick, leaving the Eagles' full back with no option but to kick the ball into touch for a five metres lineout. After a forward drive, Totts spread the ball wide and quick hands put Nick Jones over in the corner to give us a 5 – 0 lead after three minutes. Play was then fairly even until, with twenty minutes on the clock, Totts strayed offside after a succession of Eagles' rucks. The penalty was kicked in front of the sticks to bring the score to 5 – 3. This was repeated three minutes later and Eagles went ahead 5 – 6. We were then in possession but went off our feet at own ruck and the Eagles' fly half kicked a penalty from the half way line, to give his side a 5 – 9 lead after twenty-five minutes. With three minutes of the half left, Totts charged down an Eagles' clearance kick. Eagles knocked the ball on and a player in front fielded the ball. Robbie Searle kicked the penalty for offside to bring us within a point, the half time score staying at 8 – 9.
Totts put some phases together eight minutes into the second half. Eagles went over the top at the ruck and Robbie Searle kicked the home side into an 11 – 9 lead. Fifteen minutes later, we mounted a series of attacks on the Eagles' line. Ollie Northover was held up over the line, sustaining a serious knee injury in his attempt to score. Michael Searle seemed to have clearly scored, but again was deemed to have been held up. From the scrum, the ball was moved along the line and Robbie Searle kicked ahead a poor pass and beat Eagles' full back to ground the ball, for a try. He converted his own score for an 18 – 9 lead. Effingham responded immediately. They maintained pressure from the kick-off and Totts gave away a penalty. Eagles ran the ball and made good ground to set up a ruck before the ball was moved right and a mix-up in our defence saw two players tackling the same man, leaving the Eagles' winger free to score wide out, cutting the deficit to 18 – 14 with twelve minutes to go. E & L were not finished and five minutes later they kicked for touch after being awarded a penalty. Eagles tried to drive the maul resulting from the line out on Totts twenty-two, but were held up.  An opposition forward then peeled off the back of the maul and stepped out of two poor tackles for a very soft converted try, which gave his side an 18 – 21 lead with just seven minutes remaining. Tottonians again put the Eagles' line under pressure. We then spurned two penalty shots which could have drawn the game, but elected to go for touch, trying to extricate a win. But Eagles stood firm and held on for victory.
This was an error-strewn game for Totts with an unusual number of handling errors and a high penalty count, compounded by a much- changed pack under-performing. Eagles battled throughout and will be happy with their away win.

GOSPORT & FAREHAM 27
TOTTONIANS 24

An uninspiring second half performance from a below-par Tottonians side allowed Gosport and Fareham to erode our 7 – 24 half time advantage and claim the five points, with an eighty-seventh minute penalty kick, much to the delight of the vociferous home supporters.
With wind advantage Totts opened a 0 – 9 lead with three successive Robbie Searle penalties. At quarter game, his break and kick ahead was thwarted by a late tackle, but Scott Rogers ran swiftly through and touched down close to the corner. Poor defending by our forwards allowed Gosport to run in their first try after a penalty was awarded ten metres out, 7 – 14. Coming in from the side gave Robbie Searle the opportunity to add another three points to his tally. Just before the interval, Dave Wood slipped the ball to Mike Searle who rode a tackle before off loading for Robbie Searle to cut inside and score under the posts. The extras brought the score to 7 – 24 and ended Totts' productive day.
The next forty-eight minutes was a dour affair with the home side taking full advantage of a poor Tottonians' performance. Four minutes in Gosport scored, reducing their deficit to 14 – 24, after being awarded a free kick for a line out offence. This was followed up by a string of three penalties, bringing the home side deep into our territory, culminating in a blind side try from a line out and drive, 19 – 24. Just on the half-hour, an injury to Miles Northover resulted in Dave Wilson coming on as a front row replacement. Barely two minutes later, he was yellow carded by the crowd, with the agreement of the referee, and the game went to uncontested scrums. Fresh legs from Richard Buck at scrum half added a new dimension to Totts' challenge, but this was not enough to prevent the home side coming round the front of a line out and equalising the score at 24 – 24, when they touched down in the corner. Seven minutes of extra time gave the game to the home side, when a penalty from twenty-two metres out nervously split the uprights to bring the final score to 27 – 24.

WEYBRIDGE VANDALS 22
TOTTONIANS 45

The show opened with Tottonians displaying a real sense of purpose right from the starting whistle. Scott Rogers was tackled in the air as he claimed the ball and Robbie Searle popped the ball between the sticks from thirty-three metres out, 0 – 3. Totts continued the assault and the Weybridge back line were caught offside from a kick ahead. From the penalty line-out on the home side's twenty-two, there was a knock-on resulting in a scrummage. From the ensuing break and ruck, an infringement cost Tottonians a penalty, which Weybridge kicked to touch deep in our territory. From the line out, they set up a solid drive and rolling maul, engineering a drop goal opportunity, which was successful and brought them level at 3 – 3. Totts came straight back and soon had Weybridge under pressure again. Offside at a ruck, forty metres out, cost Vandals another three points as Robbie Searle put a powerful kick between the uprights. At 3 – 6, Totts were clearly taking control of the game. With the two half backs constantly communicating and exchanging fast ball, our options were variable, plentiful and constantly changing. The forwards were producing a steady flow of quality ball and our two wingers, coiled like springs and ready to unleash speedy offensives down both flanks, soon had Weybridge under a barrage of lightning attacks. The home side tried to reply with some exploratory excursions down our flanks, but nothing got past Scott Rogers or Nick Jones. With just fifteen minutes played, Totts set up a drive from a line-out and from this Dave Wood made a lateral break, then half-dummied before slipping the ball out to the incoming Robbie Searle, who finished the move with a fine try in the left corner. The conversion was unsuccessful but Totts now sported a 3 – 11 lead. Five minutes later, another good drive from line-out ball saw Scott Rogers running across from his own wing in support of a move down the blind side. Robbie Searle ran onto a tap through and fly kicked towards the goal line, falling on the ball to claim his second try and increase the tally to 3 – 16. Not allowing time for the opposition defence to settle, Nick Jones made ground before putting Mike Searle in possession, who duly chipped the ball over the defending winger and touched down close to the corner. Robbie Searle claimed the extras with a fine kick from out wide and this brought the score to 3 – 23. Weybridge were no slouches however and whenever they got the opportunity, they were quick to probe Totts' defences. After we were caught offside, a deep kick gave Vandals a line out on our five metres line. A good line out and drive powered them over our line for their first try, which was converted to bring the score to 10 – 23, which was carried over into the second half.
After the interval, the game continued in similar vein with the visitors calling most of the shots and quickly quelling any attempts from the home side to break our defence. Seven minutes in, Dave Wood once again showed his class as he weaved his way through three defenders, then pulled in a fourth to leave the way open for Robbie Searle to collect the pass and scoot over the line, with time to cut inside and reduce the angle. His own conversion brought the score to 10 – 30, at the same time claiming Totts' first league hat trick for almost two seasons and a bonus point to boot. With mum and dad watching from the sideline, both Searle brothers were benched with injuries, Joe with a back problem and Matt with a pulled bicep, to be replaced by Chris Bethel and Barry Collins respectively. Then, a ruck formed after Weybridge made an inside break from a penalty line-out, eighteen metres out. From this, Totts were caught with our hands in the till, hands which the referee erroneously identified as belonging to Chris Bethel and consequently sin-binned him for the offence, despite the protested innocence. Taking full advantage of their extra man, Weybridge set up an attack and made a blind side break down their left tramline. A two-on-one gave them the opportunity to touch down in the corner and close the gap to 15 – 30. Totts responded when holding on in the maul cost Vandals a penalty in no-man's-land. Robbie Searle went for the posts and eased the ball over from just inside the half way line, 15 – 33. We were soon back on the rampage again and fast ball through Dave Wood and Richard Buck, who had replaced the injured Mike Thomas, culminated in a nicely-worked try out wide by Robbie Searle, for his hat trick and bar. At 15 – 38 and now in the dying minutes of the game, the victory was secure, but there was more excitement still to come. From nothing, Mike Searle broke through Vandals' cover inside our own ten metres area and gathered a loose ball. Running in clean air for almost sixty metres and with Scott Rogers on his left shoulder redundant in support, he claimed his brace close to the posts. The extras put the reckoning at 15 – 45 but with just thirty seconds to go and just after the restart, the Weybridge No.8 broke clear and trundled over the line for an excellent though unexpected closing score, ending an entertaining and well-crafted match 22 – 45.
Tottonians had wasted opportunities which could have given us an even higher score line, but all in all this was certainly our best whole-match performance so far this season, with confidence, good interaction and renewed understanding adding to a solid all-round performance.

TOTTONIANS 27
GUERNSEY 26

Tottonians started by taking the game to our visitors and for ten minutes we were encamped inside our opponents' twenty-two metres area. Despite all the hard work, the only reward for our efforts was a penalty kick attempt hitting the posts. From then, Guernsey gradually worked their way back into the game and began to dominate. We did ourselves no favours when a series of relieving kicks went awry. After a number of rucks, the ball was moved to the Islanders' left wing and they went over in Co-op corner for an unconverted try, taking a 0 – 5 lead on twenty-three minutes. Three minutes later a penalty was conceded by Totts on our ten metres line. Guernsey kicked for touch and the lineout was over-thrown. This worked to Guernsey's advantage as their No.7 fielded the ball and made some ground before off loading to the supporting centre. He went under the sticks for a converted try, increasing his team's advantage to 0 – 12. On the half hour, the deficit was reduced when The Sarnians came in at the side and Robbie Searle kicked the resulting penalty to scrape back three points, 3 – 12. Five minutes later an up-and-under from Guernsey saw two Totts' players going for the same ball. From the resulting collision, the Islanders claimed possession and some good inter-passing left our defence shredded, allowing Guernsey to touch down under the sticks for another converted try, giving them a lead of 3 – 19. Things were not looking good for the home side, but just as in previous weeks the score line seemed to shake us out of our slumber. Tottonians moved the ball out of our own twenty-two and Robbie Searle slid a searching kick through the defence. The Sarnians' full back hesitated for a split second before attempting to touch the ball down, under-estimating the speed and determination of Scott Rogers chasing the kick at speed, who dived on the ball to score an opportunist try in the corner. Robbie Searle popped over a superb converting kick from the touchline and this brought the score to 10 - 19 with three minutes of the half left to play. Shortly after the re-start, a Totts' kick forced a Guernsey knock-on. Guernsey's back row went unbound at the scrum and the referee indicated that there was enough time left for a penalty line out. The five man line produced quick ball to Dave Wood who fed Jason Jones. He burst through three tackles and scored a try under the posts. As the conversion was slotted over by Robbie Searle the referee closed the half with Totts clawing our way back to a respectable 17 – 19. Considering how well our guests had played, we were fortunate to be within two points at the interval.
In what has seemingly become trademark fashion, Tottonians dominated the second half. Barely ten minutes in Robbie Searle broke the cover defence and sprinted half the length of the pitch. Ollie Northover collected a long pass but was tackled one metre out and set up a ruck. Guernsey infringed and Totts kicked for touch. A good catch and drive from the line out put us over the line, with Ollie Northover touching down for us to go in front for the first time in this nail-biting encounter, 22 – 19. Tottonians held this score line for almost twenty-five minutes but were made to regret a few missed opportunities when Guernsey, against the run of play, managed to work their way into our half, with barely five minutes of the match remaining. We then gave away three successive penalties, all of which were kicked to touch for catch-and-drive attempts. After their last endeavour and a series of rucks, Sarnians went over for their bonus point try and what seemed like a winning score of 22 - 26, because time had virtually run out. Danny Drake, who had previously come on as front-row replacement for injured Stu Mackrell, had an injured knee and Adam Slaughter was nursing a detached bicep, leaving us with thirteen combatants and no replacements left. We restarted the game after the goal and the visitors set up a couple of rucks. Good pressure made them kick deep into our half and the ball was moved out to Joe Locke, hovering on his own twenty-two, who had replaced Richard Buck as right winger. He gassed his opposite number and made it to the Guernsey ten metres line to set up a ruck. Guernsey infringed and Totts were told there was no time for the kick to touch, so a tap-and-go was the only option for an outside chance of a score. Good inter-passing and another ruck was set up on the visitors' try line. The ball was moved to Dave Wood who saw Scott Rogers in space and marked by an opposition prop forward. Scott out paced the defender to touch down in Co-op corner for his brace and to win the game with a bonus point try and a score of 27 - 26.
This was a competitive, thrilling game of rugby with a bitterly disappointed Guernsey side fully deserving their two bonus points, having been a breath away from claiming the five points themselves. A tremendous comeback from Tottonians delighted the crowd as tears quickly turned to smiles in the dying seconds of this entertaining and at times frustrating contest.

OLD REIGATIAN 25
TOTTONIANS 25

Tottonians started the game well when a poor clearance kick from our kick-off was fielded by Scott Rogers. The ball was moved along the line and a ruck was set up. Reigatians infringed and Totts kicked for touch. The ball was moved along the line off quick ball from the line-out and Scott Rogers wheedled through and put the ball down in the corner to open the scoring 0 – 5 after two minutes. Old Reigatian came back strongly and mounted a series of attacks. We tried to run the ball out of our own half but spilt it in the tackle. The interception by the Reigatian fly half saw him scoot under the posts unopposed, for a 7 – 5 lead after eight minutes. The game then see-sawed to and fro, with O.Rs slowly gaining the upper hand. The deadlock was broken twenty-six minutes in, when the home side moved the ball quickly off a line-out and their second row dummied his way over for an unconverted try, increasing their lead to 12 – 5. Reigatians went further ahead ten minutes later, when we were deemed to have stood up at the scrummage on our own five metres line. The resulting penalty was slotted over by Reigatians, 15 – 5. As half time approached, Mike Searle was held back while supporting Paul Brading and Robbie Searle kicked the penalty to bring the score to 15 – 8. Injury time allowed Reigatian to kick off and they turned over the ruck set up by our receiver. Another two quick rucks and the hosts went over for another unconverted try and a 20 – 8 lead at the interval.
Totts came out strongly in the second half, but another intercepted pass and quick hands saw Reigatians cover the length of the pitch and score their bonus point try, increasing their advantage to 25 – 8. Five minutes later a poor clearance kick by Reigatians was fielded by Totts and moved swiftly along our back line. Paul Brading made good ground on the crash and set up a ruck. The ball was moved along the line and Richard Buck went over in the corner, his try subsequently converted by Robbie Searle to reduce the deficit to 25 – 15. The Surrey side was now under sustained pressure and a clearance kick was fielded by Scott Rogers. He was tackled illegally and Robbie Searle kicked the resulting penalty to narrow the score further, to 25 – 18 on fifty-five minutes. Shortly after, Totts won a line-out on the Reigatian five metres line. The line out was sacked but we won the ruck. Mike Thomas went close on the crash and from the ruck the ball was moved to Scott Rogers who scored his second try with Robbie Searle claiming the extras to level the score at 25 – 25. Totts dominated the last quarter of the game, but could not find a way through the Reigatian defence and the game ended honours even.
This was probably the right result with Old Reigatian having the better of the first half. Tottonians took control of the second period of play, and the way the game was developing in the final twenty minutes, we had the capability to go away with a victory from this encounter, but eventually ran out of time.

TOTTONIANS 31
TROJANS 20

Tottonians came out on top from this local derby, which was punctuated with a high penalty count accrued by both teams, but by our visitors in particular.
Trojans cleared poorly from the kick off. The kick was fielded by Richard Buck who passed to Robbie Searle. He was late–tackled as he cleared the ball downfield, resulting in a successful penalty kick from him, thirty–five metres out, to give Tottonians a 3 – 0 advantage in the first minute. Trojans won their own restart and set up a ruck from which Totts went offside. We were punished with a good penalty by Trojans to level the scores at 3 – 3 after just three minutes of play. Another infringement by us at the ruck six minutes later allowed the Stoneham Lane outfit to split the posts and take a 3 – 6 lead. This was closely followed by a crossing offence by the visitors. As Richard Buck wrestled the dead ball from an opponent for a quick tap, he was deemed to have fouled the player and was yellow carded. Trojans missed the reversed penalty, but made good use of the extra man when their winger scored in car park corner. A fine conversion put them 3 – 13 in front. Totts responded with a period of pressure and after a series of rucks Trojans were pinged for not rolling away. Robbie Searle kicked the penalty to give a score of 6 –13 at quarter–game. Five minutes later Mike Thomas made an incisive break out of defence and fed to Mike Searle who carried the ball to Trojans five metres line. Trojans went offside and Robbie Searle kicked the penalty, bringing the score to 9 – 13. Just on the half hour, Trojans' backs were offside at the ruck again and this resulted in more punishment from Robbie Searle to bring Totts within a point, 12 – 13. Yet another ruck infringement ensued and Totts kicked for touch. A good driving maul put Trojans under pressure, but a poor pass on Trojans five metres line gave their dangerous winger the opportunity to fly–hack ahead. He fielded the ball and passed to his centre, who scored a converted try to give his team a 12 – 20 lead at half time.
Trojans well–deserved this score line and indeed could have been further ahead, but for a number of missed penalty attempts on their part.
Totts came out a lot stronger in the second half and mounted a series of phases. Continuing with their trend to infringe at just about every ruck, Trojans went in at the side and Robbie Searle kicked to bring the score to 15 – 20 on forty–five minutes. We added to our tally five minutes later, going to 22 – 20 when the ball was passed through the hands from a midfield scrum. Robbie Searle chased his own kick from the half way line and volleyed through to beat the cover, touching down close to the dead ball line. He then converted his own try. Continuing our relentless renaissance, Ollie Northover went close but knocked on over the Trojans' line. The clearance kick from the resulting five metre scrum was fielded by Richard Buck and quick hands saw Mike Thomas go close, but after contact Trojans were again in at the side at the ruck. More success from the relentless right boot of Robbie Searle gave the home side a 25 – 20 advantage after an hour of play. Trojans came straight back at us, and collected from a relieving defensive kick. The outstanding Joe Searle tackled and stripped Trojans of the ball. After making some ground, he passed to brother Matt Searle on the crash. From the resulting ruck the visitors had hands in with their back line compounding the offence and another penalty went Totts' way. The referee's patience finally ran out and simultaneously binned both Trojans' wingers. Robbie Searle punished them further with another accurate stab at the uprights to increase our differential to 28 – 20. Trojans remaining thirteen on–field players did well to hold Tottonians out and we failed to score with our ten minute two man advantage. Back to full strength, Trojans again went offside at the ruck and Robbie Searle closed the game off with another penalty kick, completing a personal haul of 31 points to give a final score of 31 – 20 at no side, sixty seconds later.
This was a hard fought game with Trojans deserving more, based on their first half performance. To our credit, we composed ourselves at the interval and had a much better coordinated second half, with our Eastleigh neighbours having to persistently infringe in attempting to quell our persistent attacks.

BOGNOR 11
TOTTONIANS
31

Tottonians travelled to Bognor for our first league match of the season. The game started evenly and five minutes in, Totts set up a ruck from a scrum in our own half but were penalised for not releasing. Bognor duly kicked the points to take an early 3 – 0 lead. The scores were levelled to 3 – 3 after ten minutes with Bognor not releasing at the ruck this time. Robbie Searle bisected the uprights from Bognor's ten metres line. Totts were then on top and during a substantial period of pressure, Robbie hit the posts with another long range penalty shot. On twenty–five minutes Bognor finally cleared their lines with a long range kick to touch to our twenty–two. Tottonians won the line out but were deemed to have detached and rejoined from the resulting maul. The hosts kicked the penalty to give them a 6 – 3 advantage. Totts were now in the ascendancy at the scrummage and heavy pressure caused the opposition fly half to knock on, just five metres from his own line. From the scrum, Dave Wood created the space to put Paul Brading through under the sticks. Robbie Searle added the extras to put us 6 – 13 in front. Another mistake by the Bognor backs occurred on forty minutes when their fly half collided with the inside centre on a switch move. Dave Wood scooped up the spilt ball on the Bognor twenty–two and fed Mike Searle, who broke through two despairing tackles for a try next to the sticks. Robbie converted to bring the score to 6 – 17 at half time.
Bognor kicked for position regularly at the start of the second half.
A line out infringement allowed Bognor to kick for touch. From the ensuing lineout, they peeled from the back and got over for an unconverted try to take the score to 11 – 17 after forty–five minutes. Totts then stepped up a gear and the rest of the game was dominated by the boys in green. A series of chances, with both kicks and with the ball in hand, went unconverted by Totts. Twenty minute in to the second half, a missed penalty kick was touched down by Bognor's receiver after carrying the ball over his line. From the scrum, Woody fed the forwards who set up a ruck at which Bognor were penalised for coming in from the side. We kicked for touch and from the line out, quick ball allowed Paul Brading to carve through the Bognor defence and score under the posts for a converted try and an 11 – 24 advantage. The Hampshire lads sustained the pressure and again kicked for touch from a penalty award. A catch and drive from the line out bundled Bognor backwards and Ollie Northover touched down for the bonus point try after seventy–five minutes. Robbie Searle converted to bring the final score to 11 – 31.
A more clinical performance with the hands and the boot would have seen a higher score line. Nonetheless, this was a satisfying day's work for Tottonians, with a bonus–point away win.

TOTTONIANS 52
LEWES 14

Tottonians started the game well and we won our own kick off. A good carry by Adam slaughter resulted in Lewes infringing at the ruck. From the penalty line out, a good drive put our backs away and Dave Wood broke through and touched down under the posts. Robbie Searle converted for a 7 – 0 lead, with just three minutes on the clock. The game settled into an even contest, with Lewes gaining good territory. Eighteen minutes in, a poor defensive kick by Lewes was fielded comfortably. Good inter–passing put Ali Ramus into space and he fed Dave Wood, who went over unopposed for his brace. Robbie added the two points for a 14 – 0 lead after twenty minutes. The visitors rallied and again established good field position for sustained periods. A series of rucks gave them space to crash over for a converted try. This brought the score to 14 – 7 after thirty–five minutes and this remained the score at half time.
Totts were to enjoy a fine second half. Strong play from the backs saw Robbie Searle released through the middle within three minutes of the re–start, breaking two tackles to touch down in the corner and extending the home side's advantage to 19 – 7. Stuart Mackrell won the ball from Lewes' kick off and carried deep into their half. Relentless pressure led to Paul Brading darting through under the posts, with Robbie Searle once again adding the extras. Now boasting a 26 – 7 lead and only seven minutes of the second period played, Tottonians were in dominant mood. A good carry by Ollie Northover off the scrum three minutes later put Robbie Searle in space. He was brought down just short of the line but popped the ball up to Bryn Marshall who dabbed the ball down next to the sticks, with Robbie converting for a 33 – 7 lead. Totts were now well in control and Stuart Mackrell turned over a ruck. Quick hands let Joe Locke exploit a gap and he broke through the cover defence for a try in the corner, bringing the tally to 38 – 7 after fifty–five minutes. Paul Brading made another good break, but unfortunately his pass was dropped with the line at our mercy. This was not to be the end of Tottonians' scoring. The Sussex lads rallied and had Totts under pressure, but a good clearance kick put the ball back into Lewes' twenty–two. They attempted to run the ball out of defence, but Mike Searle intercepted a pass and outpaced the cover, touching down out wide out. A fine conversion from Robbie Searle increased our lead to 45 – 7. Totts received Lewes' kick off and omnipresent Robbie Searle broke blind to feed Tom Elliott, who scooted through the cover and off–loaded to the supporting Dave Wood. Dave went over for a well–deserved hat trick with Robbie kicking the conversion to end Totts scoring at 52 – 7, with ten minutes to go. Lewes controlled the ball for the last five minutes and a series of penalties let them in for a consolation goal. With only two minutes left on the clock, this closed the scoring at 52 – 14.
This was a refreshing and confident display by Tottonians with some well–executed tries.

TOTTONIANS 19
HOVE 24

Tottonians started brightly with good phases of play, resulting in Hove conceding a penalty for not rolling away at the ruck. Totts kicked for touch and from the driven maul off the line out, an inside pass from Dave Wood saw Richard Buck go over for a try after three minutes. Robbie Searle added the extras for a 7 – 0 lead. A period of strong competition ensued with both teams defending resolutely. Totts' defence was broken after twenty five minutes, when the Hove winger sold a dummy for a clean break. The ball was hacked ahead after a last ditch tackle and the visitors touched the ball down deep in the dead ball area. A conversion from the touch line saw the scores tied at 7 – 7. A sustained period of Hove pressure saw Adam Slaughter dislodge the ball in the tackle with Hove over the try line. We worked our way back up the field and a fine individual break by Dave Wood enabled him to pass to Richard Buck for his second try, on thirty–eight minutes. Robbie Searle converted to give a half time score of 14 – 7 to the hosts.
Hove upped their forward effort in the second half and after a series of rucks crashed over for a try after fifty minutes. The simple conversion was missed to leave Totts still leading 14 – 12. Concerted pressure from the East Sussex outfit then drew in Totts' defence and the ball was spread quickly across their back line for their winger to score an unconverted try on sixty–five minutes to give them a 14 – 17 lead. Tottonians responded with a concentrated effort, but a penalty for allegedly wheeling our own scrum in front of the opposition's posts let Hove quickly move the ball. Their centre stepped out of a number of Totts tackles to feed his winger, who scored a converted try under the sticks to give his side a 14 – 24 lead with four minutes left on the clock. Totts mounted a series of attacks after receiving the ball from the kick off. Following a number of forward drives, the ball was moved to Dave Wood who fed Ali Ramus and he crashed over wide out. The try was unconverted, giving a final score of 19 – 24 after a well–contested and entertaining game which was ideal preparation for the coming season.
